Editorial Review for Lucky's Pub – by Andrea Loera
In Short
Expect a special event every night of the week (in addition to all the Rockets, Texans and Astros games), from NFL Sunday Ticket to an in-house movie night. At this downtown pub near the Convention Center, a relaxed vibe and cheap, cold beer keep the sports-loving regulars glued to various TVs including a 21-foot hi-def screen. Sports memorabilia, pool and darts add to the fun, as does the bar menu of appetizers, burgers, pizza, salads and sandwiches.

It's amazing how big of a change it makes to go south of 59. Unlike the usual downtown/midtown bars and clubs, I was amazed at how down to earth the staff at this bar was. The waitresses actually have smiles and talk with you, and hold on to your hats- THEY HAVE A FREE PARKING LOT! I know what you're thinking, that can't be, but it's true. Alot of places in downtown just open up and either don't have a parking lot or pretend it's not theirs so they can charge, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Over all, this place was very easy going and huge so you can do your own thing without being elbow to elbow with other people. The air conditioning actually worked too. One little pet peeve I have from sports bars is whether they have HDTV. I noticed this place has a million large LCD/Plasma TV's but I only saw that the one behind the bar was showing ESPN-HD. The rest were just showing a stretched version of regular ESPN. Same with the big screen. I would give 5 stars if it were not for that fact. Guys, this is 2008. HDTV is here to stay. You've spent 10's of thousands of dollars on TV's so why would you not get some HD-Receivers (I don't know if it's satellite or cable or what), and enhance the watching expirience for your customers? It's not a novelty anymore- many people have HDTV's at home now too.
Pros: Friendly down to earth waitresses, free parking, alot of TV's, huge place
Cons: Those TV's need to have HDTV receivers...such a waste to just stretch the picture

Avoid on Astros Home Game Day! NO happy hour prices (4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.). No disclaimer in their own website about the change. You don't find out about the actual price until you get your bill! Ouch!
Pros: Great Appetizers
Cons: Parking, Happy Hour deals during 'Tros Home games
